At Desert Sky we provide obedience, advanced obedience, puppy training, agility & full agility course, protection and private boarding.

 Obedience

We can give the kind of obedience and control of your dog that you want, while taking full responsibility for the dog learning its commands. Behavior modification and addressing of client concerns are included in your obedience. We employ positive reinforcement, dog handling, and reward (praise) in the training of your dog. Once the dog is trained, we have you participate with the dog, learning how to handle the dog, speak to the dog, and continue with the consistency that we have used in the training of your dog.

Puppy Training

We can start your little dog on basic obedience as early as 10 weeks old…

Bootcamp

We offer training programs both at the client's home and also our Bootcamp during which we would board your dog for two weeks, complete all the training, and then schedule four handling/instruction lessons at your home. Bootcamp also serves as a great way to condition your dog's behavior in the house, as we have him/her here in our home and can modify the dog's behavior inside the home. Protection Training

We can train your dog to be a reliable protector or fit you with a highly trained dog that meets your needs. When trained properly, your dogs temperament is not damaged, it is quite the opposite…

 Boarding

Private boarding is in our home and we only take a minimum of dogs at a time. The dogs are given the run of the house (no kennels) and dogs from the same household will always be together for playing, etc. Please visit our Boarding/Daycare page for full information and photos.

Our Program

The program is tailored to each individual dog, with the owner’s goals in mind. Our training develops a dog’s natural talents. We strive to produce dogs that will be “all that they can be,” instilling confidence, enthusiasm and reliability. Great emphasis is placed on showing and teaching them as they proceed through training. and achieves a clear understanding of what is expected. Our training methods are designed to build a solid foundation using both conventional and modern techniques proven to provide a successful training program.

Owner Involvement

We work side by side with you, as you and your dog progress and become a proficient team. You are encouraged to put forth as much hands-on time, interest and ability as you can.

I would like to take a few minutes to praise Desert Sky K9 for their highly skilled training techniques as well as their clear love and devotion toward dogs.

We have had experience with other trainers in the past, but Mark's care and attention for our puppy has left us impressed. We adopted Teddy when he was only 4 weeks old and had been abandoned. We hired Desert Sky K9 when Teddy was about 6 months old, 50 Lbs and full of energy which at the time I could
not cater too. At the time we had a 6 year old and a new born infant in the household and still recovering from the loss of our beloved first dog.

Mark took control right away. He thought Teddy how to mind personal space, thought him how to sit, still, walk on a leash and respect basic house commands. He also thought us how to deal with a baby dog around a baby human and how to make the puppy stop mouthing behavior as well as keeping respectful distance with the baby without losing love toward him. Ever since then, Teddy is now almost 2 years old, and although still full of energy, he is capable of knowing when no means no and when play means play. Teddy can also play and walk freely without a leash where possible.

We were so pleased with the results, that we started using Desert Sky K9 for both short and long over night boarding stays as we travel quite a bit for vacation and/or work. We were especially pleases to see that the training methods used were kind and loving toward the dog. Training was not forced on him, rather taught. He taught both Teddy and us how to use positive teaching rather than negative punishment.

Teddy is always so excited to go and stay with Mark and that gives us a reassuring feeling. When boarded with Mark, Teddy has plenty of room to play as well as quite time to rest.

We would strongly recommend Desert Sky K9 to anyone who owns from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane, from a puppy to an adult dog, from a well balanced to a dysfunctional dog, and most definitely to anyone who has need for help with training, puppy boot camp or boarding.
